Fokal

In the center of Port-au-prince, inaugurated in 2003, and conceived by Haitian architect Gaylord Esper, it is a unique access to learning and reading, but also a meeting space for debate, leisure and discovery. The center comprises the Monique Calixte library, a small auditorium, a café and cybercafé, a video and sound studio, meeting and exhibit spaces. Accessible to all, it is today a favored place for children and youths from neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince as well as artists and intellectuals from Haiti and abroad.

Fokal-Unesco hall: A small auditorium used for conferences, debates, meetings, projections, concerts and theatre. This facility has a seating capacity of 130 and is furnished with state of the art lighting, sound and audio-visual equipment, including recording and simultaneous translation equipment.

The gardens: These are multi-purpose spaces for exhibits, workshops and outdoor events. The Cultural Center has a large parking of 40 places that also serves for open air concerts, fairs and exhibits. Also a garden hall designed by architect Frederic Mangones is used for workshops, training, rehearsals and meetings.

The Monique Calixte Library (BMC): 

Young people from disadvantaged areas have access to reading in optimal conditions. There are activities for children (storytelling, theater and art workshops), meetings with writers, public readings, research assistance, exhibitions and thematic workshops. A dozen computers are available for readers as well as technical assistance for research and training sessions.The BMC is part of the LITTAFCAR network (www.littafcar.org) for the promotion of French speaking literature from Africa and the Caribbean.
